Over the course of the years an additional plot for a second children’s village was acquired. The 2nd children's village, Nice View II, is approximately 1 km from Nice View I, and on 26 April 2009 half of the children were relocated and moved into the so-called “girls’ house”. The children concerned were the older girls (in school) as well as the small children (in kindergarten) that we did not want to separate.
On 01 November 2009, the older boys followed, and lived in well-equipped rooms in the so-called “well house” with an en suite bathroom up until completion of the “boys’ house”.
So far, Nice View could accommodate more than 55 children. We provide a loving home, from balanced nutrition, lodging, health care, schooling and practical experience through to independency in a family environment. Furthermore, is in the meantime Nice View the first contact point for the Youth Welfare Office when a baby is abandoned, since they need particular care.
In addition, the Nice-View-Gratitude-School with kindergarten, sanitary building, kitchen, lounge and school cafeteria is situated on the newly purchased plot. The well (for an own water supply) as well as the playground are used by the school as well as by the children’s village.
Plans for the future:
- House for the youth
According to the Kenyan law, starting with the age of 18, children are to be integrated into society. However, many of our children do not have any relatives. Therefore, we are planning to construct a “youth house” to prepare the children for independency. Furthermore, as with all families, our doors are always open, whenever they are in need.
General:
Holiday activities in Nice-View
During the holidays, the children, the guardians and Mama Gudrun compile a vacation program.
Depending on talent, wish and age, the children can contribute in different areas. In the household, the kitchen, the workshop, the tailoring, the garden, the laundry, baby care, etc. and gain herewith practical experience for the future.
Learning and playing is of course also on the program. Dances and songs are studied, worksheets to fill out are completed and for the small ones there are drawing activities.
Dependent on the weather and the time of the year there are trips in groups into the proximity or the day is spent along the beach.
Sunday is family day
The Sunday belongs to the Nice-View family. The "Mamas" (guardians) prepare together with the children the breakfast and clean up jointly.
Thereafter everyone who wants can go to the church, and the small ones can attend the children’s church in Nice View.
The lunch is again prepared collectively.
In the afternoon there are various activities and discussion circles.
Afterwards we have dinner together, and after the bedtime story the family day peters out.
