Hospital Project in Msambweni – Help Towards Self Help

In 2003 a local physician began with the construction of a small hospital. However, the funding was running short fast, and only 3 buildings could be structurally completed.

Since we are not satisfied with the medical health care in Mwambweni, and since we do not want to witness any longer that people are not treated or even die due to lack of money and/or missing health care, the creation of a medical unit in one of the poorest areas of Kenya was always one of our desires.

Therefore, in 2008 the topic hospital was taken up again and with some physicians thought-through. The conclusion was that the association Projekt Schwarz-Weiß e.V. will support and pursue the begun hospital project.

In 2009 the plot for the hospital became the property of the Nice-View-Trust-Foundation which was founded for this purpose. With this the basis was created, and the construction works could be reassumed. A gate was placed, the plot was enclosed and an approximately 700 meters long and 4 meters wide path was constructed since only a beaten path was going to the hospital.

In 2010 the dimension of the hospital becomes clearly visible. There are various treatment rooms, an aseptic theatre, a non-sterile theatre for minor surgical interventions, a delivery room, patient rooms with wet rooms, a laboratory for numerous blood examinations, etc.

The hospital compound is located in the center of Msambweni. However, the area is not yet developed, and the connection to the power supply system is difficult and the costs for it are very high. One alternative is our solar project, but we are also considering wind power or a generator for providing the hospital with power.

Unfortunately the funding does currently not suffice to complete the hospital.

But we are optimistic that with further financial support the Nice-View-Kari-Charity-Medical-Center can be brought to completion soon. It is important for us to improve the medical care in Msambweni as soon as possible.

We are also always happy with donations in kind.

We require:

Drugs (antibiotics, painkillers, suppositories or juices for children (especially cough and bronchial medicines), ear and eye drops, medicines for stomach or colon problems)
Dressings, swabs, sterile und non-sterile gloves in size 7-8
Syringes, (hypodermic) needles, winged (needle) infusion sets, urinary catheters, etc.
Well-preserved theatre filters (for example abdominal or gynecological instruments)
Laboratory equipment for the determination of the most important blood values
Medical devices of all kinds
Solar panels
Deep-well pump (for example solar powered)
Generator, if possible with minimally 19 kva

Everything is stored in D89297 Roggenburg and later shipped via maritime container to Kenya. Therefore, we are always looking for sponsors that absorb the carrying charges or provide us with sea containers.
