Junior Secondary School was opened in Nice View

On January 25, 2023, thanks to the great Nice View construction team led by Edmund, we were able to open the Junior Secondary School.

The new classrooms offer space for a further 48 children.

The Kenyan school system was changed from 8-4 to 6-3-3 on January 1st, 2023.

In December 2017, the Kenyan Ministry of Education introduced a new education system, the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which aims to replace the old system.

8:4:4 focuses only on cognitive development, while CBC focuses on integrating relevant and current topics into real life. 8:4:4 focuses on perfection while CBC aims for progress. At 8:4:4 the interaction between teacher and student is limited, while at CBC the interaction is closer.

The 7th grade of the new Kenyan school system was opened on January 1st, 2023.

The Nice View Gratitude Academy now offers 6 grades of primary school and, building on this, another 3 grades of junior secondary school.

A heartfelt wish of the founder Gudrun Dürr came true, namely to be able to teach the adolescents in Nice View for as long as possible in order to prepare them for independence.

Many of our former students, who were sent to secondary schools throughout Kenya, couldn't cope with the unfortunately very often military-style teaching methods, which led to a drastic deterioration in their average grades. Many of those affected complained that their grades were getting worse and that the chances of getting a place at university and/or a good apprenticeship are decreasing.

Unexpectedly comes often! Projekt Schwarz-Weiß e.V. had submitted a project application to the Sternstunden e.V. which was approved fairly quickly. A large part of the cost of the school extension was borne by the association. Unfortunately, the pre-calculated construction cost plan of approx. €56,900 could not be met due to the steadily increasing raw material prices.

We would therefore like to thank all helpers and supporters from the bottom of our hearts, such as our partner association Ubele in Switzerland and all sponsors who continue to support the Nice View projects in Msambweni. It's nice to have people like you on Nice View's side.

As part of the school expansion, the Nice View team now also offers homeschooling for the senior secondary grades after the junior secondary school. The implementation of this idea, which came about by chance, is already showing initial success and is helping to give all children from Nice View and the surrounding area the best possible start in their education and ultimately in their independence.
