On 13 March 2000, our first children's village (Nice View I) was opened in the township of Msambweni on Kenya's South Coast, and the first 8 orphans were taken in.
The required plot as well as all buildings - with exception of the sanitary building for the children - was financed by family Dürr privately, since at that time no donation money was available.
In the past years, the children's village has expanded, and there were times when up to 38 children lived there, together with Mama Gudrun, who still manages the children's village on site.
Since Nice View I was not designed to accommodate 38 children, on 26 April 2009 half of the children were moved to Nice View II, our second children’s village. The children that have been moved are the older girls (in school) as well as the small children (in kindergarten) that we did not want to separate.
On 01 November 2009, the older boys followed, and lived in well-equipped rooms in the so-called “well house” up until completion of the “boys’ house”.
In December 2010 the babies joined their siblings in Nice View II.
Since begin of 2011, Nice View I accommodates the supply center with various stockrooms. From there the individual projects are provided with provisions and equipment. It also hosts the administration and the repair shop.
In addition, premises for the adolescents are provided, until there is sufficient funding for building a youth house.
