The Day of the African Child is a significant event dedicated to honoring the rights, dreams, and resilience of children across the continent. This year, Nice View Children’s Village achieved a major milestone by hosting this prestigious celebration for the very first time. The event brought together various children’s homes, neighboring schools, and government officials to advocate for child welfare and celebrate the potential of our youth in a lively, collaborative environment.
The celebrations kicked off with high energy as the children assembled at the local Bomani market. From there, they marched into the Nice View Children’s Village compound in a lively procession. Accompanied by upbeat music, the walk was an incredibly fun and exciting experience for the children, setting a joyful tone for the rest of the day.
The event saw a remarkable turnout, with children and staff from multiple neighboring schools and other children’s homes participating. Local children’s officers also attended to monitor and support the initiative. We were deeply honored to welcome Madam Leah, a magistrate from Kinondo law court, as our chief guest.
During her address, Madam Leah spoke profoundly to the children regarding sexual violence and gender-based violence (GBV)—both of which remain threatening issues across Kenya today. She educated the children on their rights, how to identify warning signs, and the importance of speaking up against abuse. Her powerful words provided the children with vital knowledge to help protect themselves and their peers.
Children from the various participating homes and schools showcased diverse talent through unique presentations, including poetry, songs, and drama. A major focus of these presentations was environmental cleanliness. To put these lessons into action, participants also planted trees around the compound, demonstrating a hands-on commitment to protecting the environment.
Hosting this event was a proud breakthrough for Nice View Children’s Village. We had the privilege of guiding the children’s officers on a comprehensive tour of our facilities. The officers expressed immense satisfaction and were greatly pleased with the standard of care, safety, and genuine warmth we provide to the children.
The celebration fostered a wonderful space for learners to socialize, play, and build new friendships. The day concluded with a communal meal shared joyfully among all attendees. Adding to the day’s success, we received a generous donation of 45 boxes of milk, which we continue to distribute to our children to support their nutrition.
The Day of the African Child celebration at Nice View Children’s Village was a resounding success. From the lively march from Bomani market to the tree planting and educational sessions, it elevated the spirits of the children while addressing pressing societal challenges like GBV and environmental care. Successfully hosting this event has strengthened our standing within the community and reinforced our ongoing commitment to providing a safe, nurturing, and empowering home for every child in our care.
