Taking children in need into protective custody

Not every story we share has a happy ending—yet every little life deserves to be seen and acknowledged.
In early 2026, Nice View received an urgent call from the child welfare authorities.
Two siblings—a toddler of about two years and a baby initially estimated to be around two weeks old—had been abandoned and required immediate protection. The police brought both children to Nice View that same day.
Our team acted immediately and had both children medically examined. This led to a heartbreaking discovery: the baby was actually two to three months old and suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Despite intensive medical treatment and the medical team’s utmost efforts, the baby passed away in the hospital shortly thereafter.
It was a deeply moving moment for our entire team. We supported the process every step of the way—covering hospital costs, ensuring that all medical and administrative procedures were handled with dignity, and standing by the family when they were located shortly afterwards.
In the meantime, the children’s mother had returned voluntarily; the family was living in conditions of significant economic and social hardship. The older sibling was successfully reunited with the parents and the paternal grandmother. We subsequently accompanied the family during the repatriation and the funeral, which took place in the family’s home district.
This case serves as a powerful reminder of how crucial rapid, coordinated action among child welfare services, the police, medical personnel, and organizations like ours is—and of how many families in our region are grappling with challenges that go far beyond what is visible from the outside.
We carry this little life in our hearts and renew our commitment to treating every child who comes to us with protection, dignity, and love.
