Dear sponsors, friends and supporters,

The first three months of the year have already passed, and people in Nice View as in Germany feel that time flies way too fast. They sometimes tend to forget "Pole-pole", the unhurried Kenyan way of life.

With undiminished energy "Mama Gudrun" keeps a watchful eye over 50 Nice View children, almost 200 students and 75 employees and makes sure that everything runs smoothly. She is supported by Edi and some reliable staff members who share her vision of a better future for their country and have become able to accomplish an increasing number of tasks independently. Mama Gudrun's daughter Denise who has taken charge of the hospital is also a great relief.

At the beginning of the year, we had double reason for joy:

On February 15th, a little girl named Hadija was the first baby to be born in the Nice View clinic. With this happy event, the idea of turning the Nice View Medical Centre into a place for counselling and treatment of pregnant women, mothers and children came into life. Offering a 24-hour emergency service was a requirement for this project.

In time for Easter, Mwanasha, one of the first children who came to Nice View on March 13th, 2000 – today a self-confident young lady – has started an au-pair year in Germany. We are very happy for her and would like to thank Mwanasha's host family for being first to give a girl from Nice View the opportunity to gain international experience and later to return to her home country with new ideas and objectives.

The association's work is currently characterized by our intensive search for more investors and sponsors:

  • The new building in Nice View II that is needed desperately for classrooms and recreation space is about to be finished. But there is still a lack of money to complete the final works, to buy equipment and a solar system that will at last make the children's village independent of the insecure electricity network. Of course we also highly welcome donations in kind for the solar project! A container is waiting for transport in 89297 Roggenburg, Germany. Specifically, we need inverters (for stand-alone systems), cables, accessories, etc. ASANTE SANA in advance! The hospital requires an ultrasound scanner and an anaesthesia device.
  • To have their own bus would be a great relief to the organizers of the numerous events in the district. In addition to that, it would make the Nice View Academy more attractive for external students.
  • Last not least, the operational costs of this steadily growing project are a constant challenge to the board members who have to ensure that monthly expenses are covered.

Therefore, we are grateful for any kind of support.

We wish you a Happy Easter and look forward to keep you posted with our next newsletter!

Warm regards,

Your team of Projekt Schwarz-Weiß e.V.
